Rene Corder Evans
Connections: Silk and Wool

Textiles, fashion, fashion, textiles: as a fiber artist Rene Corder Evans does not think of one without the other. During October 2005 the Silk Weaving Studio hosted an exhibit of light weight felted shawls, scarves and clothing by this talented local fiber artist. “Textiles inspire me to create fashion; fashion inspires me to create textiles” says Evans. She uses the simple shapes of scarves and shawls, jackets and kimonos, and the more challenging shape of bustiers as surfaces to work upon. She uses the shrinking properties of wool to create wonderful textures on fine silk chiffon and one-of-a-kind wearable art.
