TERRY SASAKI
A designer, fashion lover, and inspirational painter, Terry Sasaki works with both visually and concepts towards developing an idea. From this creative flow emerges either an elaborate piece of jewellery, a comfortable yet fashionable line of clothing, or a visually powerful art piece.
Sasaki’s multifaceted personality has led him to an incursion not only into the art scene, but also into the fashion business world.
For over 30 years, Terry has successfully grown his own gallery at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, produced exhibitions and fashion shows, travelled around the world and maintained a mind open to new and exciting ideas.

KATE BarBER
The process of taking yarn from a cone and turning it into a cloth of my own design and creation is truly magical. After 20 years -- 5 of them spent at the Silk Weaving Studio -- weaving continues to challenge me in ways that are richly rewarding. I use natural dyes almost exclusively and enjoy exploring the endless possibilities of weaving. I especially love creating textured cloth, dabbling with double weave, and combining hand weaving with surface design techniques such as devore, felting, and shibori. I’ve recently started down the road to rug weaving, a wonderful new adventure.

KASSIE RUTH
Most of my life I have dabbled in fiber arts: sewing, quilting, and basketry. In 1992 I started working with Diana Sanderson as an apprentice. With her encouragement, I began to explore weaving as a personal expression. Later under Eve Kriss' direction, I learned to dye silk yarn.
In weaving as in life, I am interested in relationships. What does one yarn look like next to another? How does one color affect the others? How do different textures change the look and feel of a textile?
The pleasure comes from the tactile experience of handling and dyeing yarns, while exploring color and texture in simple weaves.

Teresa Littler
My journey as a knitter started at a very young age. Knitting was such a natural part of my early life that I don’t even remember learning to do so. I do, however, recall learning from my mistakes and taking on intricate lace, cable and fair isle patterns by the time I was in my teens. When I moved to Canada from England in the 1980’s, I was able to share my passion and skills by working and teaching classes for 18 years at the “ Touch of Wool” in Vancouver’s Dunbar area. I continue to be inspired by the beauty of natural fibers—which is one of the reasons I really enjoy knitting for Silk Weaving Studio. |
