MORIJA Reeb
The inspiration behind much of my work derives from the exploration of natural fibres in their raw form. By experimenting with their unique qualities and inherit boundaries, I strive to create works that embody the same fluidity and strength that I am perpetually inspired by in my observations of nature.
Weaving is magical for me. It’s a way to explore fibre within the boundary of warp and weft. Weaving gives me linear boundaries and forces necessary decisions to be made. It is a network of threads to begin creating from. Choices are made in the beginning, but I like to work organically throughout the piece.
Morija has a diploma in both Fashion Design and Textile Art. She has been working in the industry for over 10 years. More recently her work has focused on the natural process of creating cloth. This slow, methodical creation and the process itself is what inspires these textiles. Morija works from her Vancouver home studio where she enjoys sharing the raising of her two young sons with her carpenter/musician husband.
