Morija Reeb
I received my first sewing machine – a toy – when only six years old. The machine sparked an immediate interest in fabric, sewing and all things textiles. Soon after learning to sew, I was also given my grandmother's table loom. This early exploration of creating simple weavings and constructing garments eventually led me to attend the fashion design program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Soon after graduation, I was employed in the fashion industry and was given the opportunity to experience the production side of fashion and textiles. My attraction to both the sculptural and surface qualities of fabric grew stronger and I wanted to learn how to create and manipulate my own textiles further. In the Fall of 2007, I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to study at Capilano University in the Textile Arts program. I graduated in 2009.
Working in the studio over the past year has allowed me to be involved with a group of amazing, talented, enthusiastic women and I am constantly being inspired by them. Weaving for Diana has taught me something new everyday, and it has shown me that the true joy of weaving is in the interaction and possibilities it brings with others...unexpected and wonderful.
