Jo Skinner and Sandra Teixeira - Production Weavers

Jo Skinner
I came to weaving on a long and winding path of fibre arts. I make many kinds of things with my hands, and marvel at the cross-fertilisation that occurs – each discipline enriches and enhances the others.

I did my very first weaving in college, and then took a several-decade hiatus. Recent travels to Guatemala brought me back to weaving, and what a happy reunion it has been! As colour is really my first and truest love (sorry, Harald) weaving gives me a chance to explore colour in fascinating ways – how a colour interlaced with another can make them both sing; or how that first colour interlaced with a different one renders them muted and quiet. And when texture is thrown into the mix, it’s pure heaven. It will take several lifetimes to explore all the possibilities!

Sandra Teixeira
For several years I studied at NSCAD (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) where i spent a large part of my studies focusing on textiles. During this time I fell in love with weaving, i became so consumed by it. I am enthralled by the process of weaving, for me, there is this wonderful sense of discovery in each step from designing to dyeing to weaving the cloth.

I am still learning and it is such a pleasure to be working for Diana at the silk weaving studio. I have this great opportunity to explore further into my studies with weaving, and the studio is filled with so many creative and lively characters.
