My interest in weaving was sparked during three years of travel in New Zealand, South America and Europe in the early 1970s. I have had the pleasure and challenge of being a professional weaver since graduation from Handcraft House Textile School in Vancouver in 1977. After selling through craft fairs, shops and exhibitions I opened my Granville Island shop/studio in 1986. For over 20 years I have focused on hand-dyed silk ikat which allows me to explore silk's affinity for dye. I strive to create subtle textiles with a sense of movement and from them create casual yet elegant, classic garments and accessories. The inspiration for my choice of colour gradations comes primarily from the luxury of being surrounded by hundreds of hand dyed silks in the studio. I have had many talented assistants over the years who
have brought their own creativity and expertise, and have been instrumental
in the development of my weaving. After two decades, as my work gradually
evolves, I feel I have only scratched the surface of the endless possibilities. |
